Picture of the Day: Midblock Crosswalk Signal Broken Since Hurricane Irma

It’s been nearly 4 months since Hurricane Irma came through Miami and that’s exactly how long this midblock crosswalk signal has been laying on the side of the road on Biscayne Boulevard and 15th Street. This also happens to be next to iPrep Academy, so there are a lot of children in this area.

Please help me understand why it has taken so long for the Miami Dade Transportation and Public Works Department to fix this signal. This is baffling to me. How does this happen?

On another note, I’m not fan of these midblock “death walks” and will save my rant for another post about the dangers of midblock crosswalks when traffic calming isn’t part of the solution.
